Race-Relations in America

Today race-relations in America are a lot more calm and less of an issue present day then it was before during the time period of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird and the film Freedom Riders. People of different races get along with one another throughout the world. There may be a small percentage of people who are currently racist to other races but I don't think it is that big of a deal then what it use to be. I think the people that are still racist have been influenced by the past history. However, you know today race-relations in America aren't as big of a problem any more because  schools are diverse and people of all race are treated equally by law. I don't really experience race-relations at all. I love having friends of other race. If I lived in the time period where race-relations in America was such a big problem I don't know I could have handled the rude comments about my race or the injustice ways my race was being treated. I think that America has progressed and made many positive changes because many people were effected by race-relations in past history. Issues today regarding race-relations are less common. But, there are racist comments that go around such as, blacks aren't as smart as whites or other races. I think that is an issue because not only is that a stereotype but, its rude, and an incorrect statement. I think it is very disrespectful when white people call black people niggers. I also, think black people shouldn't use that type of language towards their own race. It is very striking to me that blacks get offended when another race uses that word towards them and then when their own race uses it towards them they don't get offended. To me personally the word shouldn't be used at all in society but I know people will most definitely continue to use that word. With Obama being the first black president I think he went through a lot of race-relational comments and I actually think it increased the expectation of not just blacks but also other minority races in America. Showing that we are capable of doing the things we strive for.
